Pasco County, Florida -- Pasco County has issued its proposed operating and capital budgets for Fiscal Year 2011-12, deciding where and how money should be split between various county organizations.

Residents can view the proposed budget online.

Blue crab trap area closure set to end

Pasco County, FL -- The harvest of blue crabs from traps in all waters of Pasco County will reopen on July 20.

The use of traps to capture blue crabs was prohibited in this area for a 10-day period so that lost and abandoned traps that remained in coastal and inland waters could be identified and removed.

Pasco County, Florida -- The Pasco County Board of County Commissioners established a new County Ordinance on Tuesday, July 12, replacing the County's former transportation impact fee with a mobility fee.

The Landmark Ordinance establishes Pasco County as a business and residential "friendly" destination.

Pasco athlete brings home Special Olympics medals

Holiday, FL -- Special Olympics athletes Michael Tuason of Holiday and Mark Zak of Riverview have returned from the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Greece with more than just memories for a lifetime – they brought home medals!

Michael Tuason competed in swimming and earned Gold in both the 400 and 800 meter freestyle events and Bronze in both the 1500 meter freestyle and the 4x50 Medley relay. Mark Zak competed in cycling and earned Gold in the 1K time trial and Silver in the 10K time trial.

Red Cross helps bring comfort to children in a new way

Tampa, FL -- The Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross announced the newest and cutest tool to help local children affected by disasters such as home fires.

Not only will “Piper the Puppy” bring comfort to a child on the curb after a fire, it will also serve as a new and creative funding stream for the local chapter.

For a donation of $100, “Piper the Puppy” can be adopted along with providing shelter, three meals, a cot, two blankets and basic hygiene items for one day to someone who loses everything when their home is destroyed by a disaster.

The first Pipers were deployed to a Progress Village family with six children whose home was destroyed by a fire Thursday, July 14.
