PORT RICHEY, FLORIDA-- Pasco County deputies released new information on Sunday about an incident where a 52-year-old man opened fire at a Hudson Kmart store.
10 News also talked to neighbors of David Harris Shafley, the theft suspect who turned the gun on himself, about why he may have snapped. They say Shafley had lived in the same home on Sea Mortiz Drive in Port Richey for more than a decade. It's where he earned a reputation as a friendly neighbor.
"He was a good guy. He cared for people. Watched over the neighborhood," said Bill Naumann.
Naumann and his wife, Marlene, lived across the street from Shafley for 12 years.
"We'd sit out and have coffee, and he'd sit out and have coffee over there every morning," she said.
They say Shafley had a bad back, walked with a cane, even had to wear a colostomy bag, which made it hard for him to have a job.
