Sheriff Bob White invites all gun enthusiasts in Polk County to join him at his Shotgun Shootout Saturday, April 30, at the Tampa Bay Sporting Clays gun range, located at 10514 Ehren Cutoff, Land O' Lakes.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and proceeds from the event will support the Sand Soldiers of America, an organization that supports war veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Sporting clays is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States, in which shooters fire at clay targets from a variety of shooting stations.  The stations are positioned over a rural course.  The clay targets are released by hidden machines and have an unpredictable pattern, often coming from over trees and behind hills.

Pasco County, FL -- Over the last few years, the RAP River Run Committee has collected shoes with a few goals in mind.

The first year, new or used sneakers or tennis shoes were collected with the goal of being recycled into material used on children’s playgrounds.

At the end of the first year of shoe collecting, it was determined that the cost to do this was too great for the committee.  Instead, one of the committee members brought them to a shelter and gave them to the needy in Tampa.

It was then that the RAP River Run committee found this outcome to be even greater than sending them to be recycled.
