Model T helps start some model marriages

HUDSON, Florida - Soft cloth in hand, Werner Heymann shines the car he expects his daughter to glow from. "For my daughter's wedding tomorrow," he says while buffing a fender.

But this 1926 Ford Model T is more than just an antique - it's kind of a good luck charm on wheels. "Nobody's ended in divorce yet," says Heymann.

That track record began back in 1927 with the marriage of Thomas and Carrie Scott. They drove the car on their honeymoon. Then in 1951, the couple handed the keys over to their daughter, Berdeen, and her new husband, Harold.

"He fixed it up and we used it on our honeymoon," says Harold Neufeld. "I didn't have a car, so I thought of it as transportation."

Berdeen adds, "This was the first car he had driven."

Next, in 1986, it was daughter Donna's turn. She and Werner cruised around Winnipeg on their wedding day. "It was fun. [We] got a lot of looks and a lot of attention," says Donna Heymann.

Viewer Jason Vandermark sent us this picture and the following info via our 10 News app on his phone: "A small fire broke out in the Golden Acre Publix Shopping Center at around 11:45 a.m. located on Little Road at Fox Hollow Dr. in New Port Richey. The store has been evacuated, the sprinkler system has been activated, and though the fire is out, but the store is flooded."

Thanks Jason, we checked it out, and the Fire Department tells us that the small fire started in the women's restroom, and that the fire was out by the time firefighters arrived.

Publix tells us the store will reopen in a few hours, right now they are mopping the water up from the floor.
