New Port Richey, Florida -- Are you a natural poet?

Do you have a goal of sharing your work with others?

Here's your chance! There is an official open mic night every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month.

The event is free and goes from 6:30 - 8 p.m. at the Progress Energy Art Gallery, 6231 Grand Blvd., in New Port Richey.

The next one will be held on Friday, May 11 at 6:30 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to read or just sit back and listen!

Pasco Arts Council recognizes rising artists with Kids ‘n Art 2012

Pasco County, Florida -- Pasco County art instructors from public, charter, private and home-schooled networks were invited to select up to six pieces of art from their currently enrolled students in elementary or middle school for this year's Kids 'n Art exhibit. 

Each child could enter one piece in any medium. The show will be judged by Barbara Dent, high school art instructor from Bishop McLaughlin and will be on exhibit from May 12 through the end of May.

New Port Richey, Florida - The city will unveil it's 31st Black Maria Film and Video Festival as rolls into town for the third straight year on Friday, April 20, at the Richey Suncoast Theatre at 8 p.m. The festival has proven to be a huge success in years' past.

African American Club of Pasco travels to Mims

African American Club of Pasco travels to Mims

Pasco County, Florida-- According to a release from the African American Club of Pasco, they will sponsor a bus tour to Mims, Florida on April 21 to celebrate the lives and sacrifices of civil rights martyrs, Harry and Harriet Moore at the 9th Annual Harry T. Moore Heritage Festival.

Harry and Harriet Moore worked to register African Americans in Florida for years during the 30s and 40s, and they were assassinated in their Mims home on December 25, 1951.

"Art of Recycling" Art Competition

Pasco County -- Some very creative high school students will be winning some cash for creating art while "going green".

On Feb. 3, students from all over Pasco County will drop off original art examples such as paintings, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, wearable art and architecture that have an environmental theme and utilize 70% recycled materials.

The artwork is then put on display and the public can vote on the artwork beginning Feb. 6.
