U-Haul full of animals abandoned outside Publix

Hernando County, Florida -- Nearly 40 cats had to be euthanized Tuesday after they were found, along with other animals, in a U-Haul truck abandoned in the parking lot of a Spring Hill Publix.

Hernando Sheriff's deputies were called out to investigate and when they arrived, along with Pasco County Code Enforcement officials and Animal Services officers, they reported they could hear the animals "screaming" inside.

Man charged with sexually battering 4-year-old girl

New Port Richey, Florida -- A 24-year-old man is behind bars Monday after he allegedly sexually battered a 4-year-old girl he helped care for.

Pasco Sheriff's deputies say the 4-year-old told her maternal grandmother and another regular care giver about the abuse at the hands of John Kelly.

The girl's mother told deputies Kelly often watches her daughter for her when she is not around. 

In an interview with investigators, Kelly admitted to the abuse and was charged with capital sexual battery.

Pasco gun shop owner sentenced to 5 years in prison

Tampa, Florida -- The target of a series of 10 News Investigators stories will be spending the next five years in federal prison on drug and weapons charges.

Gary Galati, who owned Galati Guns in New Port Richey, was arrested in December as the result of an undercover operation the feds started last summer. 

Unknown to the 10 News Investigators, we started our own undercover investigation of Galati last summer as well and did a series of stories last fall.

Over $100K in drugs seized from 2 Pasco homes

Pasco County, Florida -- Pasco County Sheriff's Office Narcotics detectives confiscated a large amount of drugs from two homes Thursday morning. 

The homes were located in the 10100 block of Old Orchard Lane in New Port Richey and 12800 block of College Hill in Hudson.

The three individuals arrested have been identified as Lionell Bates, 23; Samantha Saraya, 20; and Julian Ford, 23.

Synthetic drug bust targets 3 locations, nets 4 arrests

New Port Richey, Florida -- A major synthetic drug bust in Pasco County has landed four people in jail, and there's a warning from deputies that they're not done yet.

Officials say the operators of a Mobil-Mart in New Port Richey at Massachussetts and Rowan Road were warned several times to stop selling synthetic drugs. 

But undercover officers say that did not happen and Tuesday moved in on the store and two other locations.

Also raided were the Super K store at 12838 in Hudson and the Boost Mobile store at 2448 Grand Blvd. in Holiday.

Middle schooler caught selling pot to student

New Port Richey, Florida -- A 14-year-old Pasco County student was arrested Friday after he was caught selling marijuana to another student.

Pasco Sheriff's deputies say the teen admitted to Gulf Middle School's assistant principal he met up with the eighth grader during breakfast on the morning of May 3 and sold him a bag of marijuana for $45. The teen said the 13-year-old gave him $33 and was going to give him the rest when he sold some.

The teen was charged with sale of marijuana within a 1,000 feet of a school and possession of marijuana.
