Pasco Sheriff enforces K2 "spice" ban | Crime

Pasco County, Florida -- This month, law enforcement agencies throughout Pasco County met with Sheriff Nocco to strategize their enforcement of the new law banning synthetic drugs-mainly K2 "spice" and bath salts. 

Pasco County deputies, along New Port Richey Police, will be checking in at businesses throughout the county to ensure the owners of specific establishments are upholding the law.

In August 2012, the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) authorized the County Attorney's Office to draft a local ordinance that would assist the Pasco County Sheriff's Office in its efforts to control the increasing use of illicit drugs.  This ordinance was specific to target synthetic drugs with common street names such as K2, spice, kush, ballet, jazz and bath salts. 

This ordinance was introduced to the BOCC on Oct. 9 and unanimously approved by the BOCC on Nov. 7.  On Dec. 11, Attorney General Pam Bondi filed an emergency rule outlawing 22 new synthetic drugs, commonly called "bath salts," "K2" or "Spice."  

These efforts are allowing the PCSO to deter businesses and individuals from selling these harmful substances in Pasco County.
