Janarian Grant's return sparks Pasco past Fivay

HUDSON, Florida - Pasco senior star Janarian Grant, playing in his first game of the season, made a smashing debut Friday night, helping lead the Pirates past the Fivay Falcons 54-20.

Any doubt about Grant being ready to play after missing the first six games of the year from a preseason injury were quickly dispelled when he returned the games opening kickoff 91 yards, untouched, for an apparent score. A Pasco penalty nullified the touchdown, but Grant scored a few plays later on a 12-yard run, as his amazing night was just getting started.

Hudson stings Ridgewood, 27-24, in overtime

New Port Richey, Florida - Nate Binder kicked a 22-yard field goal in overtime, giving the Hudson Cobras (1-2, 1-0) their first win of the season and keeping the Ridgewood Rams (0-4, 0-1) winless on the year.

The game was looking good for Ridgewood, who had a 24-6 lead in the fourth quarter, but that's when Hudson began their comeback using their defense. Justyn Johnson returned an interception 49 yards for a score, and after a Binder 27-yard field goal, Owen Derksen got a 57-yard pick six, tying the game at 24.

Mitchell 46 River Ridge 3

Trinity, FL - Mitchell quarterback Trey Drury only threw four passes in the entire game, but three of them were touchdowns, helping the Mustangs (4-0, 1-0) to a 46-3 district win over River Ridge.

The Royal Knights got on the scoreboard first, with a 31-yard field goal, but that would be their only score.

The Mustangs rushed for 327 yards, passed for 148, and never had to attempt a punt in the game.

Next week, district play continues for both teams, with Mitchell going on the road to face Sunlake, while River Ridge takes on Nature Coast at home.
