Student charged with murder of man found in Pasco park

New Port Richey, Florida -- A high school student has been arrested and charged with the death of a man whose body was found in Starkey Wilderness Park Sunday afternoon.

According to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, 18-year-old Marcus Wilson was drinking with 30-year-old Christopher Ashton Martin at the park around 1 a.m. Sunday. Wilson told police he passed out on a picnic table and when he woke up Martin was performing oral sex on him.

Investigation leads to prescription drug bust in Pasco

Pasco County, Florida - Two people were arrested Sunday after over 4,000 prescription pills were found in their car during a traffic stop. 

The sheriff's office says the traffic stop was initiated based on probable cause to arrest both 38-year-old Damiana Alvarado and Ramon Aguilar-Hernandez and to seize their silver 2007 Honda 4D vehicle. The two were returning from South Florida at the time with the pills.

Stamp Out Hunger - leave food at your mailbox on Saturday

Tampa, Florida --  The U.S. Postal Service and its letter carriers ask Tampa residents to join them and the rest of the nation in combating one of the U.S' growing problems, hunger, by leaving food at your mailboxes on Saturday, May 12. 

According to USPS, this one-day food drive is the nation’s largest single-day food drive across America — including Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.

Pasco County Circuit Judge earns Justice Award

New Port Richey, Florida -- A Circuit Judge who presides over Probate Division cases in both New Port Richey and Dade City and foreclosure cases in New Port Richey has earned the Justice Award.

Circuit Judge Walter L. "Skip" Schafer, Jr. will be receive the award, presented annually "to recognize and appreciate individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the cause of justice in Florida", at the West Pasco Bar's annual Law Day luncheon on Thursday, May 3.

Pasco Arts Council recognizes rising artists with Kids ‘n Art 2012

Pasco County, Florida -- Pasco County art instructors from public, charter, private and home-schooled networks were invited to select up to six pieces of art from their currently enrolled students in elementary or middle school for this year's Kids 'n Art exhibit. 

Each child could enter one piece in any medium. The show will be judged by Barbara Dent, high school art instructor from Bishop McLaughlin and will be on exhibit from May 12 through the end of May.
