Nominate your favorite teacher in Pollo Tropical campaign

Pollo Tropical is honoring teachers throughout May by giving 15 teachers from 15 counties free Pollo Tropical for a year through its Teacher of the Year campaign.

The winning teachers from each county are the ones with the most nominations from students and parents in their respective county.

For those who nominate a teacher, you will get a free small Pollo Tropical Tropichop with any drink purchase.

All public, private or charter school teachers in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties are eligible to be entered.

Preschool presents check to local foundation

New Port Richey, Florida -- The Little Sunshine Preschool and Learning Center of New Port Richey recently presented a $1,200 check to the Foundation for Early Learning in Pasco and Hernando Counties, Inc.

Funds were raised during the school's first Spring Festival Charity Event on April 7. Fifty businesses sponsored the event where families enjoyed photos with Easter Bunny, an egg hunt, crafts, games and raffles.

Sheriff's Office team named "Crossing Guards of the Year"

New Port Richey, Florida- A team of school crossing guards assigned to New Port Richey's Schrader Elementary School has been named the Florida Department of Transportation's School Crossing Guards of the Year.

Robert Johnson and Antonio Alves have worked at Little Roach and Star Trail each school day protecting kids from dangerous traffic for the past eight years.

In 2008, Johnson suffered an injured left knee when he was hit by a car trying to protect a group of children getting ready to cross.

McDonald's offers free FCAT breakfasts Monday morning

Tampa, Florida-- According to a recent release, more than 800 McDonald's restaurants in the state of Florida will provide a free breakfast to students on April 16, the first day of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT).

Students in grades three-11 can enjoy a complimentary Egg McMuffin, Apple Slices, and a low-fat milk or orange juice from any of the 188 McDonald's restaurants in the Tampa Bay area. 

Be sure to get there between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. to take advantage of this offer!

2012 Relay for Life of Trinity

Trinity, Florida -- The largest cancer fundraiser in the world is returning to the Trinity area May 5. The Relay for Life of Trinity event has raised over $1 million since 2003 and came in 23rd out of 356 Relay for Life events throughout the state last year.

This year's Relay for Life of Trinity will mark its 10th anniversary. The 18-hour overnight event will be held at the Mitchell High School stadium, located at 2323 Little Road, starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 4 and last all the way until noon on Saturday, May 5.

Pasco County students interview local business leaders

Lutz, Florida — On January 19, 2012, twenty students from Pasco County high schools participated in Business and Media Day, led by the Pasco Economic Development Council for Youth Leadership Pasco.

Students began their day at Rasmussen College in Land O’ Lakes, then traveled to the University of South Florida (USF) and toured the WUSF-TV and radio station. At USF, students had the chance to operate cameras, edit video and role play as on-air talent. Eric Keaton, Pasco County Communications Manager, gave students tips on how to interview and communicate on camera.
