Pasco County schools host virtual town hall meetings

Land O' Lakes, Florida -- Pasco County School Board members have scheduled three school-based town hall meetings and one virtual town hall meeting to share information and take questions and suggestions on the district's 2013-2014 budget.

All of the following meetings will begin at 6 p.m.

Wednesday, May 22 - Seven Springs Middle School cafeteria, 2441 Little Road, NPR - Hosted by Board Chairman Cynthia Armstrong (District 3)

Tuesday, May 28 - Hudson High School mini-theater, 14410 Cobra Way, Hudson - Hosted by Board Member Steve Luikart (District 5)

3 district students fare well in science and engineering fair

Pasco County, Florida -- Pasco County students from nine middle and high schools participated in the 58th Annual State Science and Engineering Fair March 26 through 28 at the Lakeland Center.  

Students shared winning projects including research findings conducted during school wide competitions conducted earlier in the year. The following three students received awards:

Pasco County, Florida -- Gulfside Regional Hospice is holding a free seminar about end-of-life decisions and advanced care planning on Tuesday, April 16 at 10 a.m.

The seminar, taking place at Gulfside’s Lutz Thrift Shoppe, located at 1930 Land O’Lakes Blvd. in Harbour Village Shopping Plaza, will feature Aging with Dignity’s Five Wishes, America’s most popular living will with more than 15 million copies in national circulation.

Florida State Parks announces new, free mobile app

Florida-- Trees, lakes, trails, wildlife- they're all things that come to mind when thinking about Florida's parks. Techonology, smartphones and applications, howeverm are probably the last things to come to mind- until now!

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Park Services department has announced the launch of their new, free mobile application, which will serve as an interactive guide for users on the go at any of Florida's 171 parks, trails and historic sites.

Register now for second high school teachers workshop

Tampa Bay, Florida -- All Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate high school teachers from Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Manatee and Sarasota counties are invited to participate in a one-day workshop at The University of Tampa on Saturday, Feb. 23, to learn how to inspire students to take their interest in chemistry outside of the classroom.

The free event will be held in the Plant Hall Music Room on campus from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes lunch. The media is welcome to attend.

PTEC campuses host regional SkillsUSA competition this week

More than 500 students from Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties are expected to compete in the two-day SkillsUSA regional competition Feb. 6 - 7 at pTEC, Clearwater and St. Petersburg.

Students will compete in numerous categories including automotive service technology, cosmetology, welding, photography, and plumbing.
